Tar is imbued with symbolism. It’s the substance of the underground. It bubbles beneath Los Angeles, sticky, pungent and deep.  It’s part of why LA — the rest of the world too — is the way it is.

Tar is an independent publication edited by Keith Plocek and Josh Chesler. Keith is a longtime journalist and professor at USC Annenberg. Josh is an award-winning music and culture journalist. They met while working for the LA Weekly, and they bring that alt-weekly ethos to Tar.
